The manufacturing process of Naturawood uses high temperature and steam. No chemicals are used in the process. The process improves dimensional stability and biological durability of wood. Another improvement is a consistent color through the piece. Color can be changed by temperature with variations ranging from Cedar tone to Wenge color.
Dimensional stability
The process of Naturawood leads to a reduction in equilibrium moisture content. When treated at the highest temperatures the equilibrium moisture content can be 40-50% lower compared to natural wood. Because of lower equilibrium moisture content and the changes in the chemical composition of the wood the tangential and radial swelling decreases significantly compared with the original material. It gives the product much better stability than natural wood.
Biological durability
Removing the resin of the wood by high temperature and steam improves the wood’s biological durability by removing the natural food sources in the wood. Other structural and chemical changes also occur throughout the wood piece which improve the biological durability and are not subject to leaching out by weathering.
